Western Highlands - Peć, Rugova Gorge & Accursed (Prokletije) Mountains
February usually keeps the high pastures in deep snow, yet clear sunny days can be startlingly bright and dry on ridgelines above Peć. This is often the last solid month for dependable winter sports in the highlands: snowshoeing and backcountry skiing around Bjeshkët e Nemuna are accessible from village trailheads. However, storms still cut power and close remote roads at short notice; book transfers in advance and expect shorter daylight for mountain travel.
Sharri Mountains & Brezovica - Southwestern Kosovo
February remains prime for winter sports on the Sharri slopes with crisp, sunlit days between storms that refill the snowpack. Cross-country routes and freeride descents are popular, but wind-exposed ridgelines can be bone-chilling; protect exposed skin from windburn. Towns like Brezovica and Sharr (Shtërpcë area) offer hearty local food after a day on the snow; reserve space if you need a mountain guide.
Central Kosovo Basin - Pristina, Fushë Kosovë & Obiliq
February in the basin keeps a definite winter edge but sunlight increases slowly, melting urban snowdrifts into slush along busy boulevards like Mother Teresa. The city is quiet but affordable: museums, galleries and cafés offer refuge from cold gusts off the Livadice hills. Expect sporadic snowfall and plan transit time for taxi or bus since sidewalks can be slippery after thaw-refreeze cycles.
Southern Lowlands & Prizren District - Prizren, Kaçanik & Mirusha
February keeps the lowland chill but you may find sunlit stretches around the Sharr foothills that feel milder than the central basin; it’s a good month for quieter sightseeing without summer crowds. Rain and sleet are possible; rural backroads can be less well-maintained, so take caution on drives toward the Mirusha waterfalls. Pack waterproof footwear and a warm mid-layer for evenings in town.
Northern & Mitrovica Region - Ibar Valley, Mitrovicë and surrounding plains
February still holds winter’s influence with variable snow and icy mornings in Mitrovica and the surrounding plain: the nearby Kopaonik foothills often have more persistent snow. Roadside services can be interrupted during storms so travel plans should be flexible, especially for rural village visits. Outdoor markets are quieter, and local cafés are pleasant for warming up between short walks; gloves and a warm hat are recommended.
