Koryaksky is an active stratovolcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, notable for its symmetrical cone and high elevation. It is one of the major volcanic peaks in Kamchatka and a prominent landmark near the regional capital.
The volcano presents a large, steep cone that dominates local panoramas and can be seen from the coastal city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and surrounding bays. Its slopes include glaciers and volcanic deposits that are visible on clear days; the mountain is a frequent subject of photography and geological study.
Koryaksky formed during the Holocene as part of the Kuril-Kamchatka volcanic arc. It has produced intermittent eruptions in historical times and has been monitored by Russian volcanological services; ash emissions were reported in 2008.
The peak sits on the eastern side of the Kamchatka Peninsula, near Avacha Bay and roughly 30 kilometres from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The surrounding landscape is volcanic and rugged, with other active cones nearby.
