Korup National Park

Korup National Park is a protected rainforest park in Southwest Cameroon established to conserve one of West Africa’s most intact lowland rainforests. It is recognised for high biodiversity, including numerous plant species and significant primate populations.

The park comprises primary lowland and submontane forest with a complex river and stream network, providing habitats for mammals, birds, amphibians, and a rich understory flora. Scientific research and biodiversity monitoring are important activities in the park.

Korup was established to protect this remnant lowland forest from logging and agricultural encroachment and has been the focus of biodiversity research and conservation partnerships. Park management emphasises habitat protection, research, and regulated visitor access.

Korup National Park lies in Cameroon’s Southwest Region near the border with Nigeria, within a lowland rainforest zone; the surrounding landscape is tropical forest and small rural settlements, with the nearest regional towns reached by road.
