How to Get to Koroni

Koroni is best reached via Kalamata Airport (KLX) or by intercity bus from Athens with a transfer in Kalamata or Pylos. There's no rail service to Koroni-road transport (KTEL coaches, taxis or car hire) is the practical option.

By Air

Kalamata International Airport (KLX): The closest airport to Koroni (roughly 70-90 km depending on route). From Kalamata you can reach Koroni by car in about 1-1.5 hours; taxi fares are typically €60-100 one way. There are limited direct public coaches-most travelers transfer via Kalamata KTEL bus station and then use local buses/taxis.

Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH): A larger international hub; travel from Athens to Koroni by intercity bus or car is long (about 3-4 hours by road) and usually involves a KTEL coach to Kalamata or Pylos and a local connection to Koroni.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct rail service to Koroni; the Greek rail network does not reach most of the southwestern Peloponnese.

Bus: KTEL Messinias coaches run between Kalamata, Pylos and other Peloponnese towns; from Pylos or Kalamata take a local bus or taxi to Koroni. Bus times vary seasonally-expect total transfer times from Kalamata around 1-1.5 hours and fares for the KTEL leg generally €6-12 depending on distance.

How to Get Around Koroni #

Koroni is a compact coastal town that is easy to explore on foot; the Venetian castle, harbour and main beaches are within walking distance. KTEL regional buses link Koroni with Kalamata, Pylos and nearby villages-buses are affordable but schedules can be sparse, especially in low season. Taxis and rental cars give more flexibility for visiting surrounding beaches and archaeological sites. In summer boat taxi services and occasional coastal boats add options for short trips. Wear sturdy shoes for the castle’s uneven steps and cobbled streets.
