Kluang Travel Guide
City City in Johor, Malaysia with agriculture
Kluang keeps a slower pace - Gunung Lambak hikes, Kluang RailCoffee and fruit stalls define the town. Visitors come for local coffee, durian season and access to Johor’s interior plantations.
Why Visit Kluang? #
Small-town charm, easy access to nature and a storied coffee culture draw visitors to Kluang. Century-old kopitiams like Kluang RailCoffee serve thick black brews and kaya toast, while nearby Gunung Lambak offers a short hike with rewarding views. Evening pasar malam stalls and humble seafood vendors reveal Johor’s everyday flavors. It’s a compact base for exploring rubber plantations, rural villages and off-the-beaten-path Malaysian life.
Who's Kluang For?
Kluang is known for its kopitiams - try Kluang RailCoffee and local roti canai stalls downtown. Night markets and Jalan Stesen cafés serve affordable rice dishes, kopi-O, and kopi-luwak blends; street-snack culture is low-cost and very local.
Hiking fans can tackle Gunung Lambak’s short trails and Gunung Belumut for longer treks with waterfalls. Local farms and fruit orchards around Kahang offer countryside walks; most sites are reached by motorbike or a short taxi ride from the town centre.
Kluang is calm and family-friendly with parks, the small Kluang Mall and easy kopitiam meals for kids. Short nature excursions to waterfalls and the mini zoo at Kahang make for inexpensive day trips from town without long transfers.
For light adventure, try rock scrambling on Gunung Lambak or longer jungle routes on Belumut; local guides are available for multi-day treks. Mountain biking and river swims are seasonal, so go in the drier months for safer conditions.

How to Get to Kluang
Kluang is most commonly reached by road, with the nearest airport being Senai (Johor Bahru) and a KTM railway station in town (Kluang Railway Station) for rail connections. Long‑distance buses from Larkin (JB) and TBS (KL) are frequent and practical for most visitors.
Senai International Airport (JHB): The closest major airport is Senai (Johor Bahru). From Senai you can take a taxi or Grab direct to Kluang (roughly 60-80 km) - expect about 1-1.5 hours on the road; fares by taxi/Grab typically fall in the RM90-130 range depending on time and traffic. Alternatively take a short taxi/Grab to Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru (about 25-35 minutes, RM25-40) and catch an express bus to Kluang from there (see Bus below).
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL / KLIA & KLIA2): If flying into KLIA/KLIA2 you can combine rail and bus: KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral (RM55, ~28 minutes) then transfer to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) for an express bus to Kluang (bus 3.5-5 hours; fares commonly RM35-50). A direct taxi from KLIA to Kluang is possible but long and expensive (around 3.5-4.5 hours and several hundred ringgit), so most travelers use the rail+bus or a direct long‑distance bus.
Train: Kluang Railway Station (Stesen Kluang) sits on KTM’s southern line. Regular KTM intercity services connect Kluang with Johor Bahru (JB Sentral) and northwards toward Gemas and Kuala Lumpur; journey times are roughly 1-1.5 hours to JB and 3-5+ hours to KL depending on service and connections. Fares vary by service and class - short hops to JB are inexpensive while longer intercity legs cost more; check the KTM website or ticket counters for current schedules and prices.
Bus: Intercity bus operators (from Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru and from TBS in Kuala Lumpur) serve Kluang frequently. From JB expect about 1.5-2 hours and typical fares around RM10-18; from Kuala Lumpur buses take roughly 4-5 hours and usually cost RM35-50. Buses arrive at Kluang’s central bus terminal or stops near town centre; book longer runs in advance for seat selection and comfort.
How to Get Around Kluang
Kluang is easiest to reach by bus or car; intercity buses from Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur are frequent and affordable, while Senai is the nearest airport. Inside town, walking and Grab/taxis are the most practical ways to get around - rent a car only if you want to explore the wider Johor countryside.
- KTM Intercity (Kluang Railway Station) (RM8-40) - Kluang's station lies on KTM's southern intercity line and is the rail option for reaching Johor Bahru, Gemas and beyond. Trains are comfortable for longer distances but services are less frequent than buses - check KTM's timetable ahead of travel. Use the station for scenic, relaxed travel; ticket counters and online booking are available.
- Intercity buses (Transnasional, S&S, others) (RM10-50) - Express buses are the most convenient and frequent way to reach Kluang from Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur. Larkin Sentral (JB) and TBS (KL) are the main departure hubs; buses vary from economy to premium coaches with onboard toilets and reclining seats. For longer journeys book in advance and aim for daytime departures if you prefer better visibility of the route.
- Grab & Taxis (RM6-70) - Grab is widely used in Kluang and is generally the easiest way to get around town or make short trips to nearby attractions - fares are reasonable for short hops. Metered taxis exist but can be harder to flag down; if you need a fixed price ask drivers before boarding. Nighttime and very early rides may be pricier or require pre-booking.
- Car rental / Driving (RM120-260/day) - Renting a car is the best option if you plan to explore rural Johor, plantations or hike nearby hills - driving gives the most flexibility. Roads around Kluang are straightforward and parking in town is usually easy; be aware of occasional single‑lane stretches and agricultural vehicles. Compare local agencies and pick up at Senai or Johor Bahru for the widest choice of vehicles.
- Motorbike / Bicycle rental (RM30-100/day) - Short‑term motorbike rentals are available locally and are a cheap way to explore the immediate area, while bicycles work well for short rides within town. Helmets are essential and road conditions outside the centre can be busy with trucks on main routes. Rentals are handy but avoid long high‑speed stretches on small bikes for safety.
- Walking - Kluang town centre is compact and very walkable - most shops, cafes and the railway station are within easy walking distance. Walking is the best way to explore the coffee shops, markets and the central streets at a relaxed pace. Keep sun protection handy; it's hot and humid much of the year.
