Kılıç Ali Pasha Complex

The Kılıç Ali Pasha Complex is a late 16th-century Ottoman külliye in the Tophane area of Istanbul, comprising a mosque and associated civic buildings. It was commissioned by the Ottoman admiral Kılıç Ali Pasha and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan.

The ensemble’s mosque is the focal point, with a clear Sinan design language and a single main dome. The complex historically included a hamam and additional service buildings, and the hamam survives as one of the better-known parts of the site.

Constructed during the height of Ottoman architectural patronage, the complex served religious and social functions for the neighborhood and maritime community. Over the centuries it has undergone repairs and restorations to preserve its architecture.

It lies in the Tophane quarter on Istanbul’s European shore, close to the Bosphorus and the Galata area, within walking distance of central ferry and tram connections.
