Kirthar National Park is a protected area that covers part of the Kirthar mountain range in Sindh province, Pakistan. The park conserves rugged arid mountains and associated foothill terrain typical of the Kirthar Range.

Visitors to the park encounter steep ridges, dry valleys and sparse vegetation rather than dense forest, with opportunities for wildlife viewing in suitable seasons. The park is significant for conserving species adapted to desert-mountain environments.

The area was established to protect the natural range and wildlife of the Kirthar hills and has been managed as a protected area since its formal designation in the 20th century. Management aims have focused on wildlife conservation and limiting incompatible land uses.

Kirthar National Park lies within the Kirthar Range in southern Pakistan, occupying upland terrain in Sindh province and bordering drier lowlands to the east.

  • Habitat note: Home to desert and mountain habitats of the Kirthar Range, supporting species adapted to arid upland terrain.

Tips for Visiting Kirthar National Park #

  • Plan visits to Kirthar National Park in the cool, dry months (roughly November-February) when temperatures are moderate and wildlife viewing conditions are better.
  • Treat the park as remote: hire a 4x4 and a local ranger or certified guide and secure any necessary permits from the Sindh wildlife authorities before entering - ranger support also improves safety and chances of spotting wildlife.
  • Focus on guided drives from established entry points rather than trying to explore unmarked tracks; many of the park's scenic valleys and wildlife areas are best accessed with someone who knows the routes.
