Kirkstead Abbey is a ruined Cistercian abbey site in Lincolnshire, England, founded in the 12th century and dissolved in the 1530s. The site preserves earthworks and fragmentary masonry from the medieval monastic complex.
Remains at the site consist of buried foundations, earthworks and limited surviving masonry that mark the layout of the abbey church and cloister; the site is of interest for medieval archaeology and local history. There is no large standing church structure remaining.
The abbey was a medieval monastic house that functioned until the Tudor-era Dissolution of the Monasteries, after which the monastic buildings fell into ruin and the lands were redistributed. Surviving documentary records and archaeological remains provide the basis for the site’s chronology.
The ruins stand in Lincolnshire near the village of Woodhall Spa on the banks of the River Witham, within the English county’s rural landscape.
