Kiriath-Jearim Archaeological Site

Kiriath-Jearim is an ancient site west of Jerusalem identified with the archaeological mound often called Tel Qiryat Yearim. It is known from biblical texts and archaeological remains dating to the Iron Age and later periods.

Visitors encounter a tell with remains from multiple occupation phases and a landscape that has long-standing religious and historical associations, including the biblical tradition that the Ark of the Covenant was housed there for a time. The site offers archaeological interest rather than large tourist facilities.

Mentioned in biblical accounts, Kiriath-Jearim was an established settlement in the Iron Age and continued to be occupied in subsequent periods; archaeologists have identified material remains that reflect its long history.
