The Kingdome was a multi-purpose domed stadium in Seattle, Washington, United States, that opened in 1976 and was demolished in 2000. It served as the city’s covered, large-capacity venue for professional sports and major events.

The stadium hosted the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners and the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics at different times, and could accommodate roughly 66,000 spectators for football. It also staged concerts and other mass events during its lifetime.

Built to provide a year-round, all-weather home for Seattle’s major teams, the Kingdome closed in 1999 and was removed by implosion in March 2000. The site was subsequently redeveloped and is now occupied by newer sports facilities that host the city’s professional teams.

Located in the SoDo/downtown area of Seattle near Interstate 5, the Kingdome was sited to serve the central business district and adjacent neighborhoods.

How to Get to Kingdome #

The former Kingdome footprint is in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, south of downtown. From downtown, walk south along 1st Avenue or take the Sound Transit Link light rail to Stadium Station (two stops south of Westlake) and walk west a few blocks. Driving: access via I-5 southbound to the S Royal Brougham Way exit; parking is now for nearby stadiums and events.
