Kildrummy Castle is a medieval stone castle ruin in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, first built in the 13th century and associated with powerful north-eastern Scottish families. It is one of the larger medieval strongholds in the area and survives as extensive masonry ruins.
Visitors see massive curtain walls, a prominent gatehouse and the footprints of an inner ward and great hall; the site is accessible on foot and interpreted with information panels. The ruinous structures give a clear impression of the castle’s scale and defensive layout.
The castle was constructed in the 13th century and was controlled by the Comyn family before passing through other hands during the Wars of Scottish Independence and later conflicts. It fell into disuse and ruin after the medieval period, with stone robbing and decay reducing buildings to their present condition.
