Kidwelly Castle

Kidwelly Castle is a medieval stone castle located in the town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The site dates back to the Norman period with major rebuilding and enlargement in the 13th century.

The castle contains extensive surviving curtain walls, towers and a prominent twin-towered gatehouse that visitors can approach and view closely. Walks around the battlements and gatehouse provide views over the adjacent tidal marshes and the town of Kidwelly.

Founded by Norman lords in the later 12th century, the castle was substantially rebuilt and fortified through the 13th century to form the stone stronghold seen today. It served as a regional defensive and administrative centre during the medieval period and retains fabric from successive phases of construction.

The castle stands on the edge of the town of Kidwelly in south Wales, beside tidal waters of the local river and marshes in Carmarthenshire. It is accessible from the town centre and nearby road links.
