By car it is about a 45-60 minute drive south from Yerevan (roughly 40-50 km) along the main M2 route toward Ararat/Artashat; there is parking close to the monastery and a very short walk from the lot to the site. Numerous organized tours and minibuses run from Yerevan to Khor Virap.

- Visit Khor Virap early in the morning for the clearest views of Mount Ararat before haze builds and to avoid the midday bus groups that arrive from Yerevan.
