Khamar-Daban is reached most commonly from Irkutsk: drive or take the Trans‑Siberian Railway south from Irkutsk to towns on Lake Baikal such as Slyudyanka or Kultuk, then continue by car on the R258 (Baikal Highway) toward local forest roads that lead into Khamar‑Daban. Trailheads and forestry roads branch off within 5-30 km of those small towns, so expect a short drive followed by a hike (walking distances vary by trailhead).
There are also marshrutka (minibus) and regional train services from Irkutsk to Baikal shore towns; from those stops you will typically need a taxi or private transfer to reach specific trailheads.
