Kennedy Lake is the largest natural lake on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. It is a freshwater lake set within forested, rugged terrain and connected to the Kennedy River system.

The lake is used for recreational activities including fishing, canoeing and boating, and it is served by road access from Highway 4 which runs near its shore. The shoreline is largely undeveloped with pockets of lakeside access and camping or picnic areas.

The lake occupies a glacially carved basin typical of Vancouver Island’s inland topography and is part of the local watershed feeding rivers toward the west coast. Local Indigenous groups have long-standing connections to the area.

Geographically it lies on the west-central portion of Vancouver Island along the Highway 4 corridor between Port Alberni and the coastal communities of the west coast.

  • Access point: Accessible from Highway 4, which connects inland Port Alberni to the west coast near Tofino and Ucluelet, making it a common stop for travelers across the island.
  • Recreation: Used for recreational fishing and paddling; boat launches and roadside pullouts provide lake access at several points along the shore.
