The castle keep and curtain walls, the extensive artificial lakes and moats, and the ornate Tudor-era apartments created by Robert Dudley for royal entertaining. The site is large enough to require time to walk between the main buildings and the water defences, with visible layers of medieval and Tudor architecture.
The castle originated as a Norman and medieval stronghold and was extensively developed through the Middle Ages. It was besieged during the 13th century, later became a principal noble residence and saw major Elizabethan-era rebuilding in the 16th century to create grand domestic apartments and gardens.

How to Get to Kenilworth Castle #
Kenilworth Castle is in the market town of Kenilworth, Warwickshire. Regular trains run on the Coventry-Leamington Spa line to Kenilworth station; from Kenilworth station it’s about a 1.2 km (15-20 minute) walk into the town and up to the castle precincts. By road Kenilworth lies just off the A46; it is roughly 6 miles (about 10 km) south of Coventry by road.

- Buy tickets from English Heritage in advance and arrive at opening or mid-afternoon to avoid the peak coach-party window around midday-this gives easier access to the keep and better photo light over the Mere.
