Kenai Fjords National Park offers tidewater glaciers, glacially carved fjords and wildlife-packed boat trips from Seward; visitors commonly come for glacier viewing, whale watching, sea otters and coastal hiking.
Kenai Fjords National Park protects coastal fjords, tidewater glaciers and the Harding Icefield on the Kenai Peninsula in southcentral Alaska. The park is characterised by steep glaciated terrain, abundant marine wildlife and fast-changing coastal weather.
Boat excursions from the nearby town of Seward are a primary way to see tidewater glaciers and marine mammals, while trails and viewpoints at Exit Glacier provide accessible glacier viewing on land. Backcountry routes and day hikes lead into glacial valleys and alpine areas.
The park was established to conserve the icefield and glacially carved fjords and is managed by the National Park Service for both conservation and public visitation. Ongoing scientific monitoring documents glacial change and ecosystem responses.
Kenai Fjords lies on the eastern side of the Kenai Peninsula; the town of Seward serves as the main gateway and is located on Resurrection Bay at the park’s coastal margin.

How to Get to Kenai Fjords National Park #
Kenai Fjords National Park is accessed from the town of Seward on the Kenai Peninsula. Most visitors drive to Seward on the Seward Highway (Alaska Route 1) - about 125 miles (roughly 2.5-3 hours) south of Anchorage - and take boat tours from Seward’s harbor to the fjords. Exit Glacier, an accessible park area, is reached by road a short drive north of Seward with parking and trails at the trailhead.

- Use Seward as your base and book marine/glacier day trips that depart early in the morning for calmer seas and higher chances of wildlife sightings; many of the park's iconic views are reached by boat from Seward.
- If you want to visit on land, make a short stop at Exit Glacier (near Seward) early in the day to hike the accessible trails before afternoon crowds and potential weather changes.
