Kecharis Monastery

Kecharis Monastery is a medieval Armenian monastic complex situated near the town of Tsaghkadzor in Kotayk Province. The group of churches, a gavit and ancillary buildings dates primarily to the 11th through 13th centuries and exemplifies Armenian stone church design.

The compound contains multiple connected churches and a covered gavit used historically for assembly and instruction, together with carved khachkars and stone inscriptions. Architectural features include domed stone churches, decorative carving and historic burial plots.

The monastery served liturgical and local educational functions through the medieval period and later underwent restoration work in the 20th century to repair damage and conserve the structures. It has remained an important regional religious and cultural landmark.

Kecharis stands on the slopes above Tsaghkadzor, approximately a short drive from the town centre and about 50 kilometres north of Yerevan.
