Katsuren Castle is a ruined Ryukyuan gusuku (fortified castle) situated on a hill in present-day Uruma, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The site consists of stone walls and terraces and is noted for its commanding coastal views.

The ruins include extensive stone ramparts and terraces that formerly supported buildings and fortifications, and the hilltop location provides wide views over the nearby sea and plains. The site is visited for its ruins, interpretive signs and panoramic outlooks.

Katsuren developed as a regional stronghold during the medieval Ryukyu period and served local rulers; its stone walls and layout reflect gusuku construction traditions. The ruins have been the subject of archaeological study and conservation.

Katsuren Castle stands on a coastal promontory in Uruma on Okinawa Island, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Okinawa’s eastern coastline, within Okinawa Prefecture.

Katsuren Castle is located in Uruma, Okinawa. From Naha Airport take a bus or rent a car for the roughly 40-50 minute drive east along Route 329 and local prefectural roads. There is parking on site; public buses serve nearby stops but schedules are infrequent.

• Visit late afternoon for the light - the castle's stonework takes on warm, honeyed tones as the sun drops.
• Walk the lower walls to spot the viewpoint over the Pacific; the promontory offers one of Okinawa's more dramatic sea vistas without the crowds of the main islands.
