Katsuren Castle is a ruined Ryukyuan gusuku (fortified castle) situated on a hill in present-day Uruma, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The site consists of stone walls and terraces and is noted for its commanding coastal views.
The ruins include extensive stone ramparts and terraces that formerly supported buildings and fortifications, and the hilltop location provides wide views over the nearby sea and plains. The site is visited for its ruins, interpretive signs and panoramic outlooks.
Katsuren developed as a regional stronghold during the medieval Ryukyu period and served local rulers; its stone walls and layout reflect gusuku construction traditions. The ruins have been the subject of archaeological study and conservation.
