By car, drive from Mumbai or Pune on the Mumbai-Pune Highway (NH48) to the Lonavala exit and follow local roads to the caves; the road journey from Mumbai typically takes around 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
From the parking or drop-off point there is a short uphill walk and steps to reach the cave complex and the main chaitya.

- Aim to arrive at Karla Caves early in the day before tour buses and heat build up-weekdays are noticeably quieter than weekends for the Lonavala area.
