How to Get to Karkaraly National Park
The park is accessible from the town of Karkaraly, which is connected by road to Karaganda (approx. 200 km). Regular buses and private taxis run to Karkaraly town; from there local roads and park entrances are reached by taxi or arranged transport. Nearest major airport: Karaganda or Nur-Sultan (Astana), followed by road travel.
Tips for Visiting Karkaraly National Park
- Hire a ranger or local guide for multi-day hikes - trails are marked but remote and the park contains fragile steppe ecosystems.
- Visit the Karkaraly mountains in late August for the blooming of steppe wildflowers and more temperate hiking conditions.
- Bring a good map and a GPS device; mobile coverage is unreliable in much of the park.
