Kanaga Island is an uninhabited island in the Aleutian chain of Alaska, part of the Andreanof Islands. The island is dominated by a central stratovolcano, Kanaga, whose summit reaches roughly 1287 m.
The island’s landscape is volcanic, with steep slopes radiating from the central cone and coastal cliffs around much of the shoreline. There is no permanent civilian population and the island is visited mainly by researchers, occasional fishing or expedition vessels, and by monitoring agencies for volcanic activity.
Kanaga lies among the western Aleutians and is grouped with nearby islands such as Tanaga and Adak in a remote, maritime environment. The island is many hundreds of kilometres west of mainland Alaska and is accessible only by sea or specialized aircraft.
