Kamyana Mohyla is a natural sandstone outcrop and archaeological site in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine, known locally as the “Stone Tomb.” The feature contains rock-carved images and cultural deposits that span multiple prehistoric and historic periods.
The site contains carved symbols, cup-marks and petroglyphs on its rock faces and sheltered hollows; measured panels and carved surfaces number in the hundreds. Researchers and visitors come to study and view the rock art and the stratified finds uncovered during excavations.
The outcrop accumulated carvings and use over thousands of years, with archaeological investigations identifying material from the Mesolithic through the Middle Ages. The site has been recorded and studied by Ukrainian archaeologists since the 19th and 20th centuries.
Located in southern Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, the outcrop sits on a low rise in steppe country. It is accessible by road from nearby towns in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and lies inland from the Sea of Azov.
