Kamennye Islands
Islands Remote Arctic islands in Kara Sea with tundra
The Kamennye Islands in Krasnoyarsk Krai lie above the Arctic Circle; polar expeditions visit for seabird colonies, remote shorelines and sea‑ice conditions.
The Kamennye Islands are a small group of rocky islets in Krasnoyarsk Krai in the Russian Arctic. They lie at high latitude and form part of the Arctic island groups off northern Siberia.
Very few visitors reach the islands; there are no tourist facilities and visits are typically scientific or expeditionary in nature. The islands are noted for exposed rock, seabird nesting sites and Arctic coastal ecology rather than developed attractions.
The islands are natural features rather than built monuments. They have been used intermittently for scientific surveys and as reference points on Arctic charts; there is no recorded long-term habitation.
Geographically the islands sit well north of the Siberian mainland in Arctic waters of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The nearest populated centres are remote Arctic settlements and regional ports several hundred kilometres to the south.
- Access: Located well within the Arctic Circle, access is by ice-capable vessel or long-range expedition flights; there are no visitor facilities.
- Environment: Composed of small rocky islets with sparse vegetation and seabird colonies; no permanent settlements.
