Kalsubai is the highest peak in the Indian state of Maharashtra, rising to 1,646 metres. It is a prominent feature of the Western Ghats and a popular regional trekking destination.

The main attraction is the marked trek to the summit, used by hikers of widely varying experience; the summit itself has a small shrine and offers wide views across the surrounding ghats and plains. The route is known for rocky stretches and seasonal wildflowers, and it is commonly climbed as a day hike from nearby bases.

The peak and its shrine are associated with local religious traditions around the deity Kalsubai; the hill has been a focus of local pilgrimage and informal worship for generations. The mountain is part of the Western Ghats mountain chain and forms a local high-point rather than a constructed monument.

The peak sits in the northern part of Maharashtra in the Western Ghats, close to the popular hill-station and reservoir area of Bhandardara. It is accessed from local villages and trailheads in the surrounding talukas of the region.

Kalsubai is commonly approached from the village of Bari near Bhandardara (about 3-4 hours’ drive from Mumbai). The nearest major railheads are Igatpuri and Nashik; from there arrange a taxi or local bus to Bhandardara/Bari trailheads.

• Start early to avoid hot midday sun on the ascent; bring water and plan for steep sections near the summit.
• Hiring a local guide from Igatpuri or from villages along the trail helps with route-finding and local weather knowledge.
• Watch for the seasonal wildflowers in monsoon's aftermath (July-September), when the slopes become unexpectedly green.
