Main image

Kallang is an urban district on the eastern edge of central Singapore centred on the Kallang Basin and the lower reaches of the Kallang River. It includes major recreational and sporting facilities and stretches of waterfront used for leisure and boating.

The area is best known for the Singapore Sports Hub, which contains the National Stadium with a retractable roof and an adjacent indoor arena used for concerts and sporting events. The basin and riverfront provide promenades, small boat marinas and waterside dining used by both residents and visitors.

Kallang also contains historical infrastructure from early aviation - the former Kallang Airport opened in 1937 - and a mix of residential and commercial neighbourhoods that link toward the city centre.

  • Transport: Well served by public transport - the area is a major transit hub with the Stadium/Promenade area connected to the MRT network, making event access straightforward.

What to See #

  • Kallang Basin: Sits on the Kallang Basin and includes large public water-edge promenades and recreational areas used for boating and cycling.
  • Singapore Sports Hub: A major sports and events complex featuring the **National Stadium** with a retractable roof and a capacity of about 55,000, plus the Singapore Indoor Stadium used for concerts and indoor sports.
  • Kallang Airport (former): Singapore's first civil airport opened here in 1937; the former airfield area influenced early 20th century development of the district.

The Sports Hub and riverside are easiest reached by MRT: Stadium MRT (Circle Line) brings visitors right to the Sports Hub entrance; Kallang MRT (East-West Line) is a 10-15 minute walk along the river. Bicycle access is excellent via the Park Connector Network; driving uses Nicoll Highway/Kallang Road with paid parking at the Sports Hub.
