Kaiserstuhl (Baden-Württemberg)

Kaiserstuhl is a small volcanic hill range in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, rising from the Upper Rhine Plain and noted for its warm microclimate and intensive viticulture. The cluster of wooded hills and terraced vineyards forms a compact agricultural and recreational landscape.

Hillside vineyards, small historic villages and a network of marked footpaths are primary attractions; many visitors come for wine tasting and short walks. The highest point, Totenkopf, reaches roughly 556 metres and provides extensive views across the Rhine valley.

Geologically the Kaiserstuhl was formed by Miocene volcanic activity, leaving basaltic and other volcanic soils that favour grape cultivation. Administratively it lies between the towns of Breisach, Endingen and Ihringen, about 20 km northwest of Freiburg im Breisgau.
