How to Get to Kabompo

Kabompo is a small district town in Zambia's North-Western Province. There are no major scheduled international air services directly to the town; travellers normally approach by road from regional airports or larger Zambian cities and should plan transfers in advance.

By Air

Solwezi Airport (SLI): Solwezi is the closest commercial airport serving Zambia’s North-Western Province; from Solwezi you can reach Kabompo by hiring a private taxi or arranging regional transfer - expect a long drive (often 3-5+ hours depending on road and season). Prices for private transfers vary widely; expect around USD 100-200 for a private car for the journey.

Lusaka - Kenneth Kaunda International (LUN): For international flights many travellers fly into Lusaka and continue overland. Road travel from Lusaka to Kabompo is a multi-day trip or requires arranging domestic air charters and river/road transfers; domestic charters must be booked in advance and costs depend on operator and aircraft.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct national passenger rail service into Kabompo itself. Zambia’s national rail network does not provide regular passenger routes to most small towns in the North-Western Province, so rail is not a practical option to reach Kabompo.

Bus: Long-distance bus and shared-minibus (matatu) services operate between larger towns in North-Western Province and district centres; timetables are informal and services can be infrequent. Expect multi-hour journeys on rough roads; buy tickets locally at the bus depot or arrange onward transport from the nearest bigger town.

How to Get Around Kabompo #

Kabompo is a small, compact market town-easy to explore on foot for short trips around the centre. Regional travel relies on shared minibuses/bush taxis and occasional scheduled buses; private cars or hired taxis are the most flexible option for reaching lodges and parks. Fares vary and are typically modest; ask locally for current prices and expect infrequent timetables.
