José Armando Bermúdez National Park is a protected area in the Cordillera Central of the Dominican Republic, in Elías Piña Province, that conserves high mountain terrain and the islands’ highest peaks. It is notable for protecting alpine and cloud forest environments that support important watershed functions and endemic species.

The park was created to protect the Cordillera Central’s high-elevation watersheds and native forest communities and to secure habitat for endemic plants and animals. It is part of a network of protected areas that conserve the Dominican Republic’s central mountain landscapes.

The park sits in the central highlands of Hispaniola within the Cordillera Central range in the Dominican Republic, occupying rugged terrain in and around Elías Piña Province and neighboring provinces.

  • Highest peaks: Contains the highest peaks of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, with summits rising above 3,000 meters and offering high-altitude hiking and mountain ecosystems.
  • Access and conditions: Access typically requires multi-day treks and local guides; weather can change rapidly at altitude and trekking is easiest in the island's drier months.
