Jongsong Peak is a high mountain in the Himalaya with a summit elevation of 7,462 metres. It is a glaciated peak that forms part of the complex high ranges in the eastern Himalaya.

The mountain presents technical alpine climbing challenges and is less frequently climbed than the region’s eight-thousand metre peaks, with long approaches across glaciated terrain.

The range containing Jongsong formed through the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, producing the high relief of the Himalaya. The peak is located within the high mountain border region administered as part of Tibet (China).

  • Elevation: Summit altitude 7,462 metres, making it a high Himalayan peak rather than an eight-thousander.

Pre-monsoon (spring climbing window)
April-June · Varies by altitude (roughly -20°C to +5°C at lower camps)
One of the usual Himalayan expedition windows with generally more stable weather and less monsoon influence, though conditions remain cold and unpredictable.
Post-monsoon (autumn climbing window)
September-October · Varies by altitude (roughly -20°C to +5°C at lower camps)
Clearer skies and more stable conditions for high-altitude climbing; commonly used for Himalayan expeditions and approaches.
