Jogyesa

Jogyesa is the chief temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, located in central Seoul. It functions as the administrative and ceremonial center for the order and is a prominent urban temple.

The temple complex includes the main worship hall, a courtyard often filled with colorful lanterns during Buddhist holidays, and smaller shrines and halls used for meditation and community events. The site is commonly visited by worshippers and tourists for prayer, cultural observation and seasonal festivals.

Originally established in the early 20th century and rebuilt and expanded over time, the temple complex developed into the principal center for the Jogye Order and contemporary Korean Zen practice. It has undergone restorations that reflect changing urban and religious needs.

Situated in central Seoul near the Insadong district and Jongno, the temple is within easy walking distance of several museums, cultural streets and public transport stops.
