Jinsha site

The Jinsha site is a major Bronze Age archaeological site in Chengdu, Sichuan, associated with the ancient Shu culture and notable for high-quality gold and bronze artifacts. The site came to international attention after large-scale excavations in the early 21st century.

A modern archaeological museum that displays excavated gold masks, bronze figures and ritual items, plus an outdoor area where parts of the excavation are preserved. Exhibition labels explain the site’s material culture and the Shu polity’s local development.

Archaeologists first identified and began systematic excavation at the site in 2001 after accidental discoveries during construction work. Excavations revealed dense occupation layers and numerous ritual and elite objects that date to the late second and first millennia BCE, attributed to the regional Shu tradition.

The site and museum lie within the urban area of Chengdu, Sichuan province, and are managed as an archaeological park and research center with public displays and controlled access.

• Jinsha Museum (Main Exhibition Hall): Opened to the public in 2007, the museum presents the main artifact collection, conservation labs and multi-level exhibition halls focused on the Jinsha archaeological finds.
• Ruins park: An open archaeological park preserves exposed parts of the excavation area including foundations and stratigraphic features visible in situ.
