How to Get to Ji'an
Ji'an is reachable by regional air via Jinggangshan Airport (JGS) and by rail through Ji'an Railway Station (吉安站); for international flights the nearest major hub is Nanchang Changbei International Airport (KHN). High-speed trains make Ji'an reasonably easy to reach from other cities in Jiangxi, while local buses and taxis handle city travel.
Jinggangshan Airport (JGS): Jinggangshan Airport is the closest regional airport serving Ji’an and nearby counties. From the airport you can take the airport shuttle or intercity coach to Ji’an city centre (typical fare CNY 20-35, journey ~50-75 minutes depending on traffic). A taxi from the airport to central Ji’an normally costs around CNY 120-200 and takes roughly 40-70 minutes.
Nanchang Changbei International Airport (KHN): Nanchang Changbei is the main international gateway for Jiangxi and is recommended if you have international connections. From Changbei you can take an airport bus or metro/taxi to Nanchang West (南昌西站) and then a high-speed train to Ji’an (rail fare typically CNY 40-90, journey ~1-1.5 hours); the combined airport-to-city journey is usually 2-3 hours. A direct taxi all the way to Ji’an is possible but long and expensive (typically CNY 300+ and 2-3 hours), so most travellers prefer the train connection.
Train: Ji’an Railway Station (吉安站) is the city’s main rail hub for conventional and some high-speed services; many high-speed services also call at nearby high-speed stations on Jiangxi routes. Frequent trains connect Ji’an with Nanchang, Ganzhou and other Jiangxi cities - high-speed second-class fares are commonly in the CNY 40-100 range with journey times from about 1 hour (from Nanchang) to a few hours from farther cities. Conventional (slower) trains are cheaper but significantly slower.
Bus: Long-distance coaches run from the Ji’an long-distance bus station to other cities in Jiangxi and neighbouring provinces; fares vary with distance (roughly CNY 30-120) and journey times depend on route and traffic. Within the city, local public buses are very cheap (typically CNY 1-3 per ride) and cover most neighbourhoods, though services can be slow during peak hours.

For most visitors the best way to arrive is by train - Ji'an Railway Station links the city to Nanchang and other Jiangxi cities quickly and affordably. Within the city, a mix of local buses and taxis/Didi covers virtually every route; use buses for the cheapest travel and taxis or shared bikes for convenience and speed.
- Rail (intercity & high-speed) (CNY 40-100) - Intercity high-speed services connect Ji'an with provincial hubs such as Nanchang and Ganzhou; trains provide the fastest, most reliable travel for longer distances and are recommended for arriving or leaving the region. Second-class high-speed fares are commonly in the CNY 40-100 range depending on distance, and journeys to Nanchang typically take around an hour to an hour and a half. Book tickets in advance during holidays; arrive 10-20 minutes before departure to pass security and boarding.
