Jeløya

Jeløya is a populated island in the Oslofjord immediately south of the town of Moss in southeastern Norway. It is known for a mix of coastal scenery, agricultural land and cultural sites.

The island offers rocky shorelines, small beaches and coastal walking routes that provide views across the fjord and to nearby islands. Cultural visitors come for galleries and converted estates that host exhibitions and public programs.

Locally oriented recreation includes cycling, shoreline walks and visits to small harbors and cafés; the island retains a patchwork of farmland, wooded areas and residential villas. Facilities and short trails make it suitable for day trips from Moss and the surrounding region.

Historically used for agriculture and fishing, the island has long been integrated with the economy and settlement of Moss. Over the 20th century parts of the island developed as residential and cultural areas while much of the coastline remained recreational.

Located in Viken county (formerly Østfold), Jeløya sits directly adjacent to Moss and is linked to the town by road bridges; it lies in the inner Oslofjord, within easy reach of Oslo by car or regional rail via Moss.
