City Polish town in Podlasie, site of wartime tragedy
Podlaskie town marked by painful wartime history; visitors come to memorials and the old Jewish cemetery, while regional wooden architecture and surrounding forest trails offer quieter reflection.
Why Visit Jedwabne? #
A small town in northeastern Poland, Jedwabne attracts visitors for its sobering wartime history and rural Podlaskie character; the Jedwabne memorial and local exhibitions confront the events of 1941. Traditional wooden architecture and nearby forests offer quiet contrast, and regional specialties such as sękacz cakes and hearty kielbasa reflect local culinary roots. Short walks around the market square reveal Orthodox and Catholic influences in the town’s religious and cultural life.

How to Get to Jedwabne
Jedwabne is a small town best reached via nearby regional hubs (Łomża, Białystok) after arriving at Warsaw for international flights. Most onward travel is by regional bus; trains serve the larger towns but not Jedwabne directly.
Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW): The largest international gateway for Podlaskie; from Warsaw take an intercity train or bus to Łomża or Białystok and then a regional bus to Jedwabne. Warsaw-Łomża by train/bus is ~2-3 hours (prices vary widely, typically 20-60 PLN for intercity links).
Olsztyn-Mazury / Białystok (regional airports): These airports have limited schedules. Most travellers use Warsaw for reliable international connections and continue by bus or train; Białystok city (bus/rail hub) is closer to Jedwabne and is a convenient onward transfer point.
Train: There is no major long-distance rail station in Jedwabne itself. Use rail to the nearest larger hubs (Łomża or Białystok) - Białystok is a main rail hub with connections from Warsaw (2-3 hours). From those stations take a regional bus or taxi to Jedwabne (30-90 min).
Bus: Regional buses connect Jedwabne with Łomża and Białystok (regional carriers / PKS). Bus travel times are typically 30-90 minutes depending on origin; fares for regional buses are commonly in the single digits of PLN (roughly 5-25 PLN) for these distances.

Jedwabne is compact and easily walked; the main streets and town centre are pedestrian-friendly. Regional bus services link Jedwabne with nearby towns (Łomża and other local centres), but services can be infrequent - having a car gives you much more flexibility.
