Jebel Faya

Jebel Faya is an archaeological site on a rocky hill in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, known for Paleolithic stone-tool assemblages. The site gained international attention for finds interpreted as evidence of early human presence in southern Arabia.

The exposed hill contains stratified deposits yielding several stone-tool assemblages; the archaeological surface and small excavated exposures are visible at the site and researchers have published analyses of the lithic material. The immediate landscape is arid desert with scattered vegetation and occasional wadi channels.

Excavations in the early 21st century uncovered stone-tool assemblages that have been dated to roughly 125,000 years ago and compared with East African Middle Stone Age technologies, contributing to discussions of early modern human movements into Arabia. The site documents Paleolithic occupation during periods when local environments were more favourable.

Jebel Faya lies in inland Sharjah in the eastern United Arab Emirates, in a desert plain roughly 60-70 km east of central Dubai and accessible by road from settlements in the Emirate.
