Jean-Drapeau Park
Park Urban park in Montreal on two artificial islands
Park on islands in the Saint Lawrence connected to Montreal, featuring promenades, event lawns and cultural venues; people visit for cycling, festivals and river views.
Parc Jean-Drapeau is an urban park that comprises Île Sainte-Hélène and Île Notre-Dame in the Saint Lawrence River beside downtown Montreal. It includes major recreational, cultural and heritage sites originally developed for the 1967 World’s Fair (Expo 67).
The park contains the former US pavilion, now the Biosphere environmental museum, seasonal events and concert venues, and the La Ronde amusement park on Île Sainte-Hélène. Île Notre-Dame hosts the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a permanent motor-racing track used for the Canadian Grand Prix, and landscaped areas for walking and cycling.
The two islands were reshaped and built up for Expo 67; many of the park’s structures date from that development. Management is focused on preserving Expo-era heritage while supporting year-round recreation and large public events.
Parc Jean-Drapeau sits immediately east of downtown Montreal in the Saint Lawrence River and is reached by the Jean-Drapeau Metro station, pedestrian bridges and seasonal river transport.
