Jal Mahal is a palace located in the centre of Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The structure is noted for its symmetrical architecture and the visual effect of a multi-storey building rising from the water.
The palace is primarily observed from the lakeshore; its lower floors are often submerged when the lake is full, giving the appearance of a partly floating building. The surrounding lake and embankments provide common public viewpoints and photographic perspectives.
Jal Mahal was constructed in the 18th century as a royal lodge and pleasure pavilion and has undergone conservation and restoration work in the 20th and 21st centuries to stabilise the structure and the lake embankments.
Geographically it lies within the urban area of Jaipur city in Rajasthan, set on the artificial Man Sagar Lake just north of the city’s historic core and visible from several lakeside promenades.
