Main image

Jägala Waterfall is the largest natural waterfall in Estonia, located on the Jägala River in Harju County. It measures roughly 8 metres in height and can span as much as about 50 metres in width when the river flow is high.

The waterfall’s broad basalt and tufa ledge creates a curtain-like drop that is visually distinctive and frequently photographed. The immediate area is used for short visits and nature viewing rather than extensive hiking infrastructure.

The waterfall is a natural fluvial feature with no major modern structural alterations required to produce its broad fall; it sits in a river valley shaped by regional geology and hydrology.

Jägala Waterfall is situated near Jõelähtme Parish in Harju County, about 25 kilometres east of Tallinn and adjacent to the main road toward Narva, making it one of the most accessible natural falls in Estonia.

  • Dimensions: The waterfall is approximately 8 metres high and can be up to about 50 metres wide when the river is at higher flow.
  • Access: Located roughly 25 kilometres east of central Tallinn, the site is easily reached from the Tallinn-Narva road and is popular for short visits and photography.
