Jaca Cathedral

Jaca Cathedral (Catedral de San Pedro) is a Romanesque cathedral in the city of Jaca in Aragon, Spain, built mainly during the late 11th and 12th centuries. It is a key medieval ecclesiastical building in the Pyrenean foothills and a landmark of early Spanish Romanesque architecture.

Architectural highlights include the cathedral’s nave and transept, a sculpted cloister, a historic crypt and a bell tower that remains a distinctive element of Jaca’s skyline. The building contains medieval stone carving and liturgical spaces preserved through later restorations.

The cathedral was commissioned as part of the Christian reorganization of the region during the High Middle Ages and has served continuously as the seat of the local diocese and as a parish church. Over the centuries it has undergone restorations that preserved its Romanesque character while repairing later damage.
