How to Get to Izumo, Shimane

Izumo is best reached by small regional flights into Izumo Enmusubi Airport (IZO) or by JR rail to Izumoshi Station on the San'in Main Line. The airport has direct buses and taxis into town; rail links connect Izumo with Matsue, Yonago and onward to Okayama.

By Air

Izumo Enmusubi Airport (IZO): The regional Izumo Enmusubi Airport sits a short drive from the city. There is a regular airport shuttle bus to Izumoshi (Izumo-shi) Station taking about 20-25 minutes; fare is roughly ¥500 one-way. Taxis to central Izumo take about 20-30 minutes and typically cost ¥3,000-¥4,500; car-rental counters are also available at the terminal for visitors who prefer to drive into Shimane.

By Train & Bus

Train: Izumoshi Station (出雲市駅) is the main rail gateway on the JR San’in Main Line. Local and rapid services link Izumo with Matsue and Yonago; travel to nearby Matsue is about 30-40 minutes (typical local fare around ¥800-¥1,200). Limited‑express services (for example the JR Yakumo between Okayama and the San’in area) connect Izumo with Okayama in roughly 2.5-3 hours; reserved-seat fares on that route are generally in the ¥5,000-¥7,000 range depending on origin and seat type.
