Izium mass graves

The Izium mass graves are locations around the town of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine, where graves and burial pits were discovered following the withdrawal of occupying forces in 2022. The sites became the focus of forensic exhumations and investigations into alleged crimes committed during the occupation.

These locations are not attractions; they are documented crime scenes and places of burial where human remains were recovered and examined by investigators. Public access, photography, and casual visitation are generally restricted and subject to local authority control.

Mass graves and burial pits in and around Izium were reported and investigated after Ukrainian forces re-entered the area in September 2022. Ukrainian authorities and international observers carried out exhumations and forensic examinations as part of ongoing criminal and human-rights investigations.

The graves are associated with the town of Izium in northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast. The town lies on the Oskil River and was a site of active military operations during the 2022 conflict.
