Iwashimizu Hachimang6b is a major Shinto shrine founded in 859 AD on Mt. Otokoyama in Yawata, Kyoto Prefecture, and is dedicated to Hachiman, the kami of war and protection. It is an important religious site with a long history and substantial traditional architecture.
The shrine complex occupies wooded slopes and includes main sanctuary buildings, covered walkways and approach stairways, providing both architectural interest and framed views over the Kyoto plain. The site is noted for ritual ceremonies and seasonal color, especially in autumn when the grounds are popular with visitors.
Established in the ninth century, the shrine has been an influential center of Hachiman worship and has been rebuilt and restored several times across its history. It served both religious and state-related functions in different historical periods.
