Island Beskids

The Island Beskids is a mountain range in southern Poland’s Lesser Poland Voivodeship, part of the Western Beskids. It is characterised by relatively isolated peaks that rise separately from one another, which gives the range its name.

Hikers and nature visitors come for networked trails, mixed beech and fir forests, and peak walks; the highest point is Mogielica at 1,170 metres. Trails are typically moderate in steepness and many summits offer panoramic views over adjacent valleys and neighbouring ranges.

The range formed as part of the Carpathian orogeny and has been used historically for forestry and pastoralism; modern conservation and tourism infrastructure developed in the 20th century. Traditional mountain villages and shepherding landscapes remain across the area.

Geographically the Island Beskids lie south-east of Kraków, near towns such as Limanowa and Myślenice, within a network of valleys leading toward the Dunajec and Raba river basins. The range occupies upland terrain rather than a single continuous ridge.
