Isla de la Luna (Island of the Moon) is a small island on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, in the La Paz Department, noted for its archaeological remains from the Inca period and its association with Andean cosmology. The island is smaller and less visited than nearby Isla del Sol and contains Inca-period stone structures.

On the island visitors can see the remains of ceremonial stonework traditionally interpreted as linked to lunar cults in the Inca world, plus steep shoreline terrain and viewpoints across Lake Titicaca. The island is typically visited as a short stop on boat itineraries between Copacabana and Isla del Sol.

Archaeological and ethnographic interest focuses on the Inca structures and the island’s place in local myth and ritual landscapes. Isla de la Luna lies close to Isla del Sol in the southern basin of Lake Titicaca and is administered within Bolivia’s La Paz Department.

  • How visitors access the island: Often visited on boat trips that also include Isla del Sol; landing and short walks allow inspection of the Inca stonework and shoreline vistas.
