Eastern & Dublin (Leinster and East Coast)
High daylight and mild conditions in June make Dublin and the surrounding counties lively - outdoor festivals and markets are in full swing and the seaside villages are pleasant for promenades. Sea temperatures are still cool but sunbathers show up on warmer spells; hiking in Wicklow is at its best, though midges in boggy spots can be bothersome on calm, warm evenings. Book accommodations early for weekends and bring layered clothing for morning chill and afternoon warmth.
The Midlands & Shannon Basin (Central Plains)
Long daylight in June makes canal-side cycling and lakeside picnics attractive; the region rarely gets the strongest coastal gales so conditions are often settled. Midges can appear in sheltered wet bogs on calm nights, particularly after a warm, damp spell, so carry repellent if you plan dusk walks. Rural pubs and village festivals pick up activity, and accommodation can fill at weekends; book ahead for popular riverside inns.
Southwest (Cork, Kerry, Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula)
June delivers long light and usually comfortable conditions for beach walks at Inch Strand and for hill walks in Killarney National Park; evenings can be mild and pleasant for open-air music sessions in Dingle. Atlantic swells still can cancel offshore excursions, but mainland activities are reliable and wildflower displays are at their peak. For photography and hiking, aim for early starts to avoid occasional afternoon showers.
West Coast & Connemara / Galway / Clare (Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher)
June brings long light and often pleasant walking weather; coastal paths between Clifden, Roundstone and the Connemara coast are busy with walkers and cyclists. Seabird colonies are active and boat operators run wildlife tours regularly, though swells still cancel some departures. The inland bogs and low mountains are at their most photogenic; bring insect repellent for sheltered, still spots and waterproof boots for wet trails.
Northern & Northwest (Antrim Coast, Derry, Donegal)
June is typically mild with long daylight hours that make cliff-top walks at the Giant’s Causeway and sea kayaking along quiet coves especially pleasant. Midges are less of an issue than further inland, but sheltered boggy spots can still be humid on still nights. This is an excellent month for photography and for scheduling boat trips to Rathlin Island and Donegal’s sea stacks, though always expect some wind.
