Ipatiev House

Ipatiev House was a private residence in Yekaterinburg, Russia, known chiefly as the site where the last Russian Imperial family were killed on 17 July 1918 during the Civil War.

Today the original building no longer exists; visitors encounter the memorial complex and Church on the Blood that commemorate the Romanov family and display related exhibits. The site functions as both a place of pilgrimage and a museum about the final days of the imperial family.

The house was requisitioned by Bolshevik authorities in 1918 and used to detain Nicholas II, his family and attendants; the killings made the location historically significant. The original structure was demolished in 1977 by Soviet regional authorities, and a memorial church complex was later constructed on the site and consecrated in 2003.

The site lies on the bank of the Iset River in central Yekaterinburg, within the city’s historical district and a short distance from the city centre.
