Inya Lake

Inya Lake is the largest lake within Yangon city and serves as a major urban open space and recreational area. It is surrounded by residential neighborhoods, diplomatic residences, and parks and is a common destination for walking, boating, and leisure.

The shoreline hosts promenades, parks, and several hotels and restaurants that take advantage of lakeside views. Small-scale recreational boating and informal leisure activities are common when weather permits.

The lake was created and developed during the British colonial period as part of the city’s water and recreational infrastructure, and it later became integrated into the urban fabric as a valued open space.

The lake sits in northern Yangon within the urban area and is surrounded by residential and diplomatic districts rather than industrial zones.
