International Drive
Area Major Orlando tourist corridor lined with attractions
Orlando’s International Drive runs the city’s tourist corridor with hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions like ICON Park; visitors come for dining, entertainment, convention access and easy drives to Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.
International Drive is Orlando’s main tourism corridor, lined with hotels, restaurants, entertainment complexes and convention facilities. The road functions as a commercial spine for the city’s visitor industry and connects multiple attractions and service clusters.
The corridor contains major visitor sites such as the Orange County Convention Center and the ICON Park entertainment complex, which includes a large observation wheel that dominates the skyline. The strip supports an array of attractions, retail centers and dining options that cater to convention delegates and leisure travelers alike.
International Drive developed alongside Orlando’s growth as a tourist destination in the latter half of the 20th century and has since expanded with new hotels, attractions and transportation links. Today it serves both day visitors and multi-night convention stays as a concentrated visitor district.
The drive runs through the southern part of the Orlando tourist district in Orange County, Florida, situated between downtown Orlando and the Universal/SeaWorld areas and served by local roads and shuttle services to nearby theme parks and the airport.
- Observation wheel: The ICON observation wheel at ICON Park is a prominent landmark on the corridor and rises to roughly 400 feet, offering year-round views of the area.
- Visitor tip: The strip is busiest in the evenings and during major conventions; many hotels along the drive operate shuttle services to nearby theme parks and airports.
What to See #
- Orange County Convention Center: A large convention and exhibition complex that anchors the tourism corridor and brings year-round conference traffic to the area, directly served by hotels and transport on International Drive.
- ICON Park: A cluster of attractions and dining at ICON Park including the observation wheel that provides panoramic views of the Orlando tourist district.
How to Get to International Drive #
International Drive (“I‑Drive”) is the main tourist corridor in Orlando running north-south through the convention/resort area near the Orange County Convention Center and Universal Orlando. By car it is about a 15-25 minute drive from downtown Orlando and about 20-30 minutes from Orlando International Airport depending on traffic - common access is via I‑4 or via FL‑528 (Beachline) to the Convention Center area, then follow signs to International Drive. The corridor is served by local Lynx buses and by the private I‑RIDE Trolley service; many hotels and attractions are within short walking distance of the I‑Drive transit stops.
Tips for Visiting International Drive #
- Use the I‑Ride Trolley to move up and down International Drive - it's the easiest way to hop between attractions without paying multiple parking fees or fighting drive-up traffic.
- Evenings showcase the area's illuminated signage and nightlife, but weekday daytime visits generally mean shorter queues at major attractions; plan popular stops (ICON Park, Madame Tussauds, Orlando Eye) for off-peak hours.
- Park at a central location (near the Orange County Convention Center or Pointe Orlando) if you plan to visit multiple attractions on foot - it reduces time spent looking for parking and gives easy access to shuttle/trolley stops.
Best Time to Visit International Drive #
International Drive is accessible year-round, but expect the fewest crowds in the fall shoulder months and the heaviest crowds in winter and spring-break periods.
